West Virginia University (WVU) has announced the resolution of a gas leak incident that occurred on Campus Drive near the Downtown area of Morgantown campus. The university issued an "all clear" message, confirming that normal activities could resume after the leak was repaired.
Campus Drive is now open to traffic, and the Life Sciences Building has returned to its regular operating hours.
Initially, WVU had alerted the community about a gas leak on Tuesday. As a precautionary measure, the Life Sciences Building was closed after being cleared and secured by University Police. Chief Sherry St. Clair stated, "We are asking members of the University community to avoid the area until the situation is addressed." She noted that due to classes not starting until January 13, there were fewer students and staff in the vicinity.
Hope Gas crews worked on addressing the leak throughout Tuesday evening, with efforts expected to continue into the night. Updates regarding the situation were provided by Monongalia County Emergency Management through their M.E.C.C.A. 911 Facebook page.
The university encourages students and employees to stay informed about safety issues by visiting safety.wvu.edu and police.wvu.edu for resources related to health, safety, preparedness, and training. They can also follow WVU Safety and Wellness on Facebook or @WVUsafety on X for updates.
