On-campus operations at West Virginia University's Morgantown Campus will be closed on Monday, January 6, due to an impending winter storm. The closure begins at 12:01 a.m. and affects on-site activities.

Employees who work remotely or follow a hybrid schedule are expected to continue their normal routine. On-site employees should check with their supervisors regarding the necessity of working during the closure.

The Visitors Centers and campus tours will be unavailable, and Student Health services will also be closed. Essential operations like roads and grounds maintenance will proceed as usual under Facilities Management.

Some university functions may operate with reduced staff during the closure. It is advised for employees, students, and visitors to confirm open locations before heading out since conditions may change.

"We urge people to stay indoors and limit travel unless necessary," said University Police Chief Sherry St. Clair. "If travel is unavoidable, please use caution and be sure to allow extra time."

WVU Health Sciences personnel involved in patient care or clinical rotations should consult their respective dean, program director, or clinic manager for guidance.

The university plans to resume regular operations at 12:01 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7; however, officials will monitor weather reports from the National Weather Service alongside state and local conditions closely.

Updates regarding the situation will be communicated through various channels including the WVU Alert system, MIX email service, students.wvu.edu website, MOUNTAINEER E-News platform via email at enews.wvu.edu, as well as social media accounts such as @WVUsafety on X and WVU Safety and Wellness Facebook page.

Decisions concerning WVU Tech and WVU Potomac State College campuses are made separately based on their local conditions. WVU Extension adheres to its internal inclement weather policy available online.

A WVU Alert is part of the university's three-tiered emergency notification system.
