The West Virginia University Foundation has announced the recipients of its 2024 Outstanding Philanthropy Awards, recognizing significant contributions from individuals and a corporation dedicated to supporting the university's mission. This year's honorees include Wayne and Kathy Richards, Alexis Pugh, and Antero Resources.

Wayne and Kathy Richards have been named Milan Puskar Outstanding Philanthropists for their extensive financial support to WVU. The couple, originally from South Charleston, has donated nearly $5 million across various areas within the university system. Their contributions have supported athletic facilities, faculty resources, cancer care, and more. Notably, their funding led to the renovation of the Wayne and Kathy Richards Family Men’s Basketball Locker Room in 2015. Wayne Richards holds key roles at WVU as vice chair of the WVU Foundation Board of Directors and chair of the WVUF Nominating and Governance Committee.

Alexis Pugh has been honored as Hazel Ruby McQuain Outstanding Volunteer Philanthropist for her long-standing commitment to WVU since graduating in 1973. Over 14 years, she has contributed nearly $1.4 million to initiatives including a $250,000 gift establishing the Alexis and Jim Pugh Media Innovation Lab at Martin Hall. Her dedication is further reflected in a $1 million pledge to enhance the journalism program at WVU.

Antero Resources has been recognized as an Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation for its substantial investments exceeding $5 million since 2013 into various sectors of WVU. Their notable contribution includes a $4 million pledge towards petroleum and natural gas engineering programs in Statler College. Antero's involvement extends beyond financial donations through faculty mentorships and student internships that enrich educational experiences.

Antero Resources stands as West Virginia's largest producer of natural gas while Antero Midstream leads in midstream services provision within the state.
