WVU welcomes alumni for homecoming with parades and celebrations

Mountaineers are set to gather in Morgantown this weekend from October 18 to 20 for West Virginia University's Homecoming celebration. The event promises a mix of tradition and new experiences for alumni and students.

Kevin Berry, vice president of Alumni Relations and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association, expressed enthusiasm about the occasion: “We are excited to welcome our alumni back home this week. This celebration offers the perfect opportunity for alumni and students to reconnect with friends, relive cherished moments on campus, create new memories and celebrate the traditions that make our Mountaineer community so special.”

The Homecoming Parade will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, October 18, on High Street. It will feature Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin, renowned astrophysicists from the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences, as grand marshals. They will be joined by recipients of the 2024 Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards.

During halftime at the football game against Kansas State University on Saturday, October 19, two students will be named "Homecoming Royalty." The game is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Milan Puskar Stadium.

This year's Homecoming Court candidates include Maria Amores from Martinsburg; Trixie Calissie from Wheeling; Emily Coram from Wheeling; Megan Frappier from Cliffwood, New Jersey; Makenzie Keplinger from Moorefield; Lauren Marquart from Wheeling; Shaye Potter from Greensburg, Pennsylvania; Alexandria Spiker from Morgantown; Hannah Warden from Cross Lanes; and Kayla Workman from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Students can vote electronically via WVUENGAGE on Tuesday, October 15, and Wednesday, October 16.

Additional events during Homecoming include a special edition of Mountaineer Friday outside the Mountainlair with activities such as a WVU Bookstore pop-up shop and music by U92. The Greek Alumni Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Friday afternoon in the Mountainlair Ballrooms.

Food trucks will line Prospect Street before the parade on Friday evening. On Saturday afternoon, a tailgate hosted by the Center for Black Culture and Black Alumni Association will open to the public in the Gold Lot.

The Student Government Association Chapter of the WVU Alumni Association plans its inaugural open house at Erickson Alumni Center on Saturday evening. Sunday morning features a Trick or Trot 5K run organized by Campus Recreation and the Alumni Association at the Student Rec Center.

Following the race on Sunday morning, participants can enjoy an ice cream bar at Sundaes on Sunday outside the Student Rec Center.
