Battlers Plagued By Second Half Surge of Senators

Battlers Plagued By Second Half Surge of Senators

Alderson Broaddus Men's Basketball were defeated by Davis & Elkins in a Saturday evening conference matchup 83-67. The Battlers shot 48.1% from the field but were forced into 22 turnovers by the nagging Senators defense. D&E shot 20-of-25 from the free throw line.

The first half would be a back-and-forth battle between the two squads. Coryon Rice would get the Battlers in the scoring column with a three pointer to give them an early lead. The Senators controlled the pace through the first 10 minutes until layups by Zach Simpkins and Fraser LaRocque tied the game at 21. Davis & Elkins put themselves back in the driver's seat with a quick 9-2 run before the last media timeout of the half.

Another Coryon Rice three pointer and a pair of Jadakis Mack baskets trimmed the lead down for Davis & Elkins to just 35-33 going into halftime. The Battlers shot 40% from behind the arc and used a balanced scoring attack to keep it close.

Alderson Broaddus would come out firing in the second half, taking a 44-39 lead from a fast break layup by Tahleik Walker four minutes into the half. The Senators regained the lead with a Breland Walton three just minutes later. D&E would build a seven-point lead until the Battlers cut it back down to two after the under-10 media timeout.

That would be the closest AB could get as the Senators went on a 15-2 run to pull away. The lead reached as much as 22 in the closing minutes with the Senators knocking down free throws down the stretch, where they shot 9-11 in the second half. Jalen Collins finished the game strong to complete his 13-point performance.

Coryon Rice finished the evening with 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the loss. Freshman Rye Gadd started his second consecutive game, accumulating eight points and grabbing four rebounds.
