West Virginia University is progressing in its search for a new president. Dr. Patrice Harris, Vice-Chair of the Board of Governors and Chair of the Presidential Search Committee, announced that the Board has endorsed a Leadership Profile for the 27th President. This profile was developed from diverse input gathered during 34 listening sessions and nearly 1,200 survey responses.

The recruitment process will formally begin on October 11, with WittKieffer, an external executive search partner, releasing the WVU Presidential Leadership Profile. Applications and nominations for candidates will be accepted following this release.

The search process aims to attract highly qualified candidates. The Search Committee will review applications, conduct preliminary interviews, and recommend three to five finalists to the Board of Governors. Both entities will then conduct in-person interviews before selecting the next president in Spring 2025.

There has been community interest in publicly announcing finalists and holding open campus visits. However, research conducted by WVU shows that not announcing finalists is common among public universities today. "Candidates in today’s market want and often expect confidentiality," stated Dr. Harris.

The Leadership Profile will be available on the Presidential Search website starting October 11. It emphasizes the need for a president who understands WVU's land-grant mission and possesses relevant experience aligned with university values.

A meet-and-greet event with Dr. Harris and faculty members of the Search Committee is scheduled for October 10 at Erickson Alumni Center.
