WVU honors alumni achievements during 2024 homecoming weekend

The West Virginia University Alumni Association is set to honor the recipients of its 2024 Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards during the upcoming Homecoming Weekend from October 18-20. The celebration will acknowledge alumni achievements and their commitment to the university.

Kevin Berry, Vice President of Alumni Relations and CEO of the WVU Alumni Association, expressed pride in honoring this year's awardees: “The WVU Alumni Association is proud to honor this remarkable group of Homecoming and Alumni Award winners whose dedication and achievements exemplify the very best of West Virginia University.”

Among those being recognized are WVU faculty members Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin, who will serve as grand marshals for the 2024 Homecoming Parade. Both astrophysicists have made significant contributions to their field, including receiving prestigious awards such as the Shaw Prize in Astronomy for discovering fast radio bursts.

Alumnae Tracy Schoenadel and Laura Boyd will receive the Outstanding Alumni title. Schoenadel has had a notable career in sports data research, while Boyd has excelled in education with a focus on special education.

Mallory Willink will be presented with the John F. Nicholas Jr. Award for her work as a family law attorney in Charlotte, North Carolina, alongside her active involvement with various community organizations.

Bill Nevin will receive the Paul B. “Buck” Martin Values and Traditions Award for his longstanding service as an announcer for WVU sporting events and his contributions to university communications.

Paul Lewis is awarded the David W. Jacobs Lifetime Service Award for his lifetime commitment to agriculture education at WVU, while Andy Richardson receives recognition with the James R. McCartney Community Service Award for his extensive public service efforts.

Lastly, Chris Morlock will be honored with the Margaret Buchanan Cole Young Alumni Award for his dedication to fostering alumni connections and supporting university development initiatives.

These individuals will be celebrated at both the Homecoming Parade on October 18 and during halftime at the WVU vs. Kansas State football game on October 19.
