Podium Finish for Relay Teams, Provisional Qualifying Time Highlight MEC Indoor Track Championships

The Davis & Elkins Men's and Women's Track teams finished the indoor portion of their track season with some great performances at the MEC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Huntington, West Virginia over the weekend (February 17-18).

The Senators competed in six of the seventeen indoor events on the weekend and finished with one NCAA provisional qualifying time, three podium finishes, 16 top-10 finishes, and four more school records.

Highlighting the weekend was the runner-up finish and NCAA provisional qualifying performance of the Men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR). The team of Jackson Gibson, Jonathan Griffin, Martin Lucas, and Carter McKenna reached only the second-ever NCAA Provo in D&E Indoor Track history. The time of 10:02.25 also took nearly ten seconds off the school record set at the MEC championships last year.

Also making the podium and taking nearly 30 seconds off the previous school record was the Women's DMR team of Savanna Hardman, Roxanne McFarlin, Lauren Twyman, and Anya Miller. The group's time of 12:29 was good enough for a 3rd place finish in a tight battle with the top-3 teams, and more than 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Senior Roxanne McFarlin, running in her final indoor championship race, finished with a podium 3rd place individual finish in the 400m (59.34).

The Men's Mile group of Carter McKenna, Jackson Gibson, and Konnor Allison finished 4th-5th-6th respectively in a race where the top-5 all finished within one second.

Anya Miller once again set a new record in the Mile, improving her old time to 5:11.50 to finish 5th and Rachel Snedden ran another PR, finishing 9th in 5:43. Snedden also broke the 20-minute barrier the night before in the 5000m, running the event in 19:53.

Lauren Twyman set the final school record on the day, finishing 4th in the 800m with a time of 2:20.92 and taking nearly two seconds off the record she set just last week. Anya Miller (6th, 2:22) and Ella Hesson (9th, 2:25) also had top-10 finishes.

Martin Lucas (4th, 1:56) just missed the podium in the tightly bunched 800m event with Jackson Gibson doubling back from the Mile to finish 9th in 1:57.

In the 3000m, both Henry Schmidt (8:37) and Savanna Hardman (8:42) finished 7th respectively, and Konnor Allison doubled from the Mile to finish 13th.  Schmidt also finished with another top-10 the night before in the 5000m (9th, 15:07).
