The Alderson Broaddus Men's Basketball team picked up a home victory over Wheeling University, 86-76. The Battlers have clinched a playoff spot for the Mountain East Conference Championship which they will be going into as the number 9 seed. The game would get off to a slow start with the Battlers leading 9-8, 5 minutes into the contest. The Cardinals would then take off going on a 14-5 run to go up 23-14. Jon King would score 6 points within 2 minutes to put the Battlers within 7 of Wheeling, However the Cardinals would follow those 6 points with 5 of their own. The Battlers would still be down 32-24 with 4 minutes remaining in the half.AB would go on a 9-0 run with back to back to back threes by Jalen Knott, Zach Simpkins, and Sirr Hughes. After a quick two-point shot by the Cardinals, Jalen Knott would hit another three to put AB in the lead 36-34 with 2 minutes left in the half. AB and Wheeling would go back and forth in the final two minutes with Jalen Knott hitting his 4th three of the half with 19 seconds left to put AB within 2 of Wheeling.The second half would get off to a quick start with the Battlers tying the game at 45 with 2 minutes into the half. Coryon Rice would hit a three to set off a 29-9 run by the Battlers. AB would lead Wheeling 77-58 with 7 minutes remaining in the game.The Cardinals did not back down and would go on a 12-2 run to come with 9 of the Battlers. AB would stop the run and maintain the lead over Wheeling with the win being sealed on a jumper by Tahleik Walker to take a 12-point lead with 45 seconds remaining.The Battlers will play their season finale vs Notre Dame College on Saturday the 25th @ the Rex Pyles Arena.
