Senators Track Teams With Another Strong Showing at Spire Collegiate Indoor Games

The Davis & Elkins track teams concluded their 2023 indoor track regular season by competing at one of the premier indoor track complexes in the country. Running in the Spire Collegiate Indoor Games hosted at the Spire Institute against nearly 40 other colleges, the Senators finished with an overall event winner, two school records, and six top-10 finishes.

Leading the way was Junior Henry Schmidt winning the 3000m event in a time of 8:30.77 over a field of 33 other competitors. The time is the second fastest in program history and currently 6th in the region.

Senior Anya Miller kept her record breaking indoor season rolling along breaking her own Mile school record running a 5:12.81 to finish 10th overall in the event.

Breaking one of Miller's earlier season records was Freshman Lauren Twyman in the 800m, covering the event in 2:22.17.

Event top-five finishes came from Freshman Konnor Allison in the Mile (4:17). With his performance the D&E men now have four different runners that have broken the 4:20 barrier in the event this indoor season.  Also finishing in the top-five was Sophomore Jackson Gibson who ran 1:55.33 to also finish 5th overall.

Top-10 finishes came from both the men's and women's 4x400 relay squads.

Carter McKenna (1:56, 800), Jonathan Griffin (51, 400), and Bastian Luthmann (8:53, unseeded 300m) all had heat wins on the day.

Other top performances came from Roxanne McFarlin, whose 400m time is now ranked 3rd in the MEC, and Savanna Hardman (10:44, 3000m).

In all, 13 total personal best times were set among the team. Included in that mix was Freshman Rachel Snedden in the 5000m who ran 20:02 for a 2+ minute personal best, less than a year ago the freshman's high school best in the event was 22:11.
