Battlers win big vs the Yellow Jackets
The Alderson Broaddus Men's basketball team picked up the home win over West Virginia State, 92-82 Wednesday evening at the Rex Pyles Arena. The Battlers even the season's series at one apiece after losing earlier in the season to the Yellow Jackets 82-79 earlier this season.
The Battlers played even with the Yellow Jackets for the first 15 minutes of the game. Jalen Knott led the charge scoring the first 14 points for the Battlers. The game stayed even until the Yellow Jackets went on a 17-9 run to end the first half to take a 42-34 lead.
AB was able to fight back in the second half to tie it with 14 minutes remaining in the game. The Battlers then went on a 10-0 run led by Zach Simpkins with back-to-back threes to begin the run. WVSU would fight back to within two with 5 minutes left in the game. AB would take control of the game after going on a 12-4 run ending with a three-pointer by Coryon Rice with 2 minutes left in the game. The Battlers would go on to get the statement win vs West Virginia State. This win puts the Battlers in great position to make the Mountain East Conference Tournament held from March 1st to March 5th.
The Battlers were led by Jalen Knott who racked up 28 points and Coryon Rice who finished with 20 points. The pair also finished with five threes each.
Alderson Broaddus (9-15) will return to action this Saturday, February 18th against the University of Charleston (17-8). Tip-off from Charleston will be at 7:30 PM.
