WVU announces homecoming royalty amid annual celebrations

West Virginia University celebrated its Homecoming on October 19, 2024, with the announcement of Megan Frappier and Hannah Warden as the new Homecoming Royalty. The crowning took place during the halftime ceremony at the football game against Kansas State.

Frappier and Warden were chosen by their peers after two days of voting. They were joined by members of the Homecoming Court, family, "The Pride of West Virginia," the Mountaineer Marching Band, and thousands of fans at Milan Puskar Stadium.

Megan Frappier is a senior majoring in criminology and political science from Cliffwood, New Jersey. She is involved in several organizations including Project 168 Society and Women in Politics and Government Club. Frappier also holds leadership roles such as founding president of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Peer Advocates and vice president of inclusion for WVU's National Pan-Hellenic Council. She was sponsored by the Hip Hop Dance Team.

Hannah Warden, a senior health services management and leadership major from Cross Lanes, serves as president of the WVU Panhellenic Association. She is part of Chi Omega Sorority and works as a Mindfit academic coach. Warden volunteers with Multidisciplinary Unsheltered Homeless Outreach in Morgantown and was sponsored by the WVU Panhellenic Association.

Other candidates included Maria Amores, Trixie Calissie, Emily Coram, Makenzie Keplinger, Lauren Marquart, Shaye Potter, Alexandria Spiker, and Kayla Workman.

During halftime, the WVU Alumni Association presented its 2024 Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards. Alumnae Tracy Schoenadel ('87, '89, '92) and Laura Boyd ('89,'91) received the Outstanding Alumni title while Paul Lewis ('68,'73) was awarded the David W. Jacobs Lifetime Service Award.

Chris Morlock ('11) received the Margaret Buchanan Cole Young Alumni Award; Andy Richardson ('79,'82) was honored with the James R. McCartney Community Service Award; Bill Nevin ('06) got the Paul B. "Buck" Martin Values and Traditions Award; Mallory Willink (’09) received John F. Nicholas Jr. Award.

Astrophysicists Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin from WVU Eberly College served as grand marshals for Friday evening's Homecoming Parade on October 18.
