In-person classes at West Virginia University's Morgantown Campus will begin later on Wednesday, January 22, due to continued cold temperatures and icy conditions. Classes will start at 10 a.m., with all earlier in-person sessions canceled.

This schedule change affects only on-campus classes. Other campus operations will proceed as planned. Employees are advised to coordinate with supervisors for any necessary adjustments.

“We ask our faculty members to allow some flexibility for students who may have to travel to get to campus,” stated Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Paul Kreider.

Facilities Management's Roads and Grounds crews continue their efforts to clear campus roads, parking lots, sidewalks, stairs, and other areas. Charles “Chuck” Roberts, associate vice president of facilities operations, commented that “the extra time in the morning and the milder temperatures that are in the forecast later in the day will help our crews as they address icy spots on campus.”

WVU Health Sciences faculty, staff, and students involved in patient care or clinical rotations should consult their dean or program director for guidance.

University officials remain vigilant, monitoring updates from the National Weather Service along with state and local conditions. Safety tips for cold weather are available from the university, including advice on avoiding hypothermia and protecting residential pipes.

Updates regarding schedules or weather changes will be communicated through various channels such as the WVU Alert system, MIX email, MOUNTAINEER E-News, and social media accounts like @WVUsafety on X and WVU Safety and Wellness Facebook.

Decisions about WVU Tech and Potomac State College campuses will be made separately based on local conditions. WVU Extension follows its internal inclement weather policy.
