West Virginia University baseball to host Marshall for second game of season series

The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team will host Marshall on April 7 at Kendrick Family Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

This matchup is the second of three games between the in-state rivals this season. The Mountaineers previously defeated Marshall, 3-0, at Jack Cook Field in Huntington. The final meeting is set for May 5 in Charleston.

Tickets are available through WVUGame.com, by phone, or at the Mountaineer Ticket Office. Students can attend free with a valid WVU ID. Fans have multiple options to follow the game: live broadcasts will be available on ESPN+, radio coverage on the Mountaineer Sports Network, and live stats on WVUsports.com.

West Virginia enters the contest with a record of 21-7 after winning one out of three games against No. 23 UCF over the weekend. Sophomore Gavin Kelly leads the team with a .405 batting average and has driven in 29 runs batted in (RBI). Graduate student Sean Smith holds a team-high five home runs, while junior Armani Guzman leads both his team and the Big 12 Conference with 19 stolen bases.

On the mound, right-handed pitcher David Hagen (2-0 record, 1.46 earned run average) is expected to start for West Virginia against Marshall’s Kenyon Collins (2-2 record, 5.70 ERA), who has recorded 43 strikeouts over his innings pitched this season.

Marshall comes into Wednesday’s game under head coach Greg Beals with a current season record of 14-16 following their recent series at Appalachian State. Evan Bottone leads Marshall offensively with a .388 batting average and six home runs.
