The West Virginia University baseball team will travel to Kansas for a three-game Big 12 series beginning May 8. The No. 15 Mountaineers are set to play the No. 7 Jayhawks, with games scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m., and Sunday at noon.

This matchup is significant as both teams are ranked among the top fifteen nationally and are competing for positioning in the Big 12 standings. West Virginia holds a record of 32-12 overall and is second in the conference with a mark of 16-8, trailing Kansas by four games with six left to play.

Fans can watch all three games on ESPN+, listen via Mountaineer Sports Network, or follow live statistics on wvusports.com. According to the team, “Sophomore Gavin Kelly leads the Mountaineers with a .394 batting average and 43 RBI while hitting a team-high 10 home runs, four of which have come in the last three games.” Senior Paul Schoenfeld has contributed with a .381 average, while sophomore Matt Ineich is hitting .326. Junior Armani Guzman currently leads the Big 12 Conference with twenty-seven stolen bases.

On pitching, redshirt junior Maxx Yehl and sophomore Chansen Cole have led West Virginia’s rotation. Yehl holds a league-best earned run average (ERA) of 2.20, while Cole follows closely at 2.64 ERA after throwing a complete game against Kansas State for his eighth win this season.

Kansas enters the series atop both national rankings and conference standings with an overall record of thirty-seven wins and twelve losses, including twenty victories against four defeats within league play. Tyson LeBlanc leads their offense with sixteen home runs and fifty runs batted in (RBI), while Dominic Voegele has recorded eighty-four strikeouts over sixty-seven innings pitched.

The outcome of this weekend’s series could impact postseason seeding as both teams look to strengthen their positions before conference tournament play.
