West Virginia tennis team secures first conference win over Cincinnati

The West Virginia University tennis team earned its first conference victory of the season on March 28, defeating Cincinnati 4-0 at the Summit Tennis Academy.

This win marks a significant moment for the Mountaineers, who had previously struggled in Big 12 play. The result improves their overall record to 7-9 and their conference record to 1-8.

The match began with strong doubles performances from West Virginia. Lucia Tognoni and Laura Villanueva Morillo claimed a 6-4 win on court two, while Lyla Byers and Sosanne Malaak also secured a 6-4 victory on court three to clinch the doubles point. The top-court match went unfinished with West Virginia leading.

In singles play, Villanueva Morillo extended the lead with a straight-set win on court two. Byers followed suit with another straight-set victory on court four. Julie Bousseau sealed the sweep for West Virginia by rallying from one set down to defeat her opponent in three sets on court three.
