West Virginia rowing team to compete at Lake Wheeler Invitational April 24-25

The West Virginia University rowing team will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, for the Lake Wheeler Invitational on April 24-25. The event is hosted by Duke and North Carolina and will include teams such as Alabama, Boston College, Clemson, Georgetown, George Washington, High Point, Lehigh, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Navy, Oklahoma, Southern Methodist University (SMU), Villanova and Virginia. Big 12 Conference member Kansas and affiliates Old Dominion and Tulsa are also participating.

This invitational provides an opportunity for the Mountaineers to race their first varsity eight (1V8), second varsity eight (2V8), first varsity four (1V4), second varsity four (2V4), third varsity four (3V4) and third varsity eight (3V8) boats. Competition begins Friday with Round 1 starting at 9:40 a.m., followed by Round 2 at 2:35 p.m. On Saturday morning at 9:20 a.m., Round 3 opens with the final race scheduled for approximately 11:20 a.m.

The regatta marks the third meeting this season between West Virginia and Old Dominion. Other teams facing the Mountaineers for the second time this season include Boston College, High Point, Kansas, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), North Carolina, SMU and Tulsa.

Fans can watch coverage of the regatta on ESPN+ during several time slots: Friday morning at 9:30 a.m., Friday afternoon at 2:15 p.m., and Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Results from the event as well as updated team scoring will be made available online. Spectators attending in person can access parking at Lake Wheeler Park for $20 per day via credit card only; parking areas open each day at 7 a.m.

The schedule details specific times for each boat’s races throughout both days of competition.
