West Virginia men’s golf team in second after 36 holes at Mountaineer Invitational

The West Virginia University men’s golf team is in second place after completing 36 holes at the Mountaineer Invitational, held at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia, according to an April 13 update from the university.

The tournament features a competitive field of 19 teams. The Mountaineers are currently seven under par, trailing No. 36 Clemson by one shot for first place. Other top-ranked teams include No. 5 Arkansas at six under par, No. 8 Texas Tech at five under par, and No. 5 Oklahoma State at three under par. TCU is two over par.

Jack Michael and Ryan Leach lead the way for West Virginia, both tied for seventh place individually at three under par. Nick Turowski stands in fifteenth place with a score of one under par, while Kaleb Wilson is nineteenth at even par after two rounds. Harrison Thompson sits eight over par through the same stretch.

Oklahoma State’s Preston Stout holds the individual lead with a score of eight under par after two rounds.

West Virginia also has four individuals competing outside its main lineup: Aidan Dortch is three over par and Gabe Schmitz is eight over through Monday’s play. Brody Burgess and Westy McCabe were unable to finish their second round due to darkness; they will resume play Tuesday morning at 7:15 a.m.

The final round will begin Tuesday with tee times starting on both the first and tenth holes from 8 a.m., while West Virginia’s team members are scheduled to tee off between 9:40 and 10:20 a.m.
