The West Virginia University baseball team lost to Texas Christian University, 4-0, at Kendrick Family Ballpark on May 15. The Mountaineers are now 36-13 overall and hold a 20-9 record in the Big 12 Conference, while the Horned Frogs improved their season to 33-19 and stand at 17-12 in league play.
The game was marked by a strong pitching performance from TCU’s Lance Davis, who threw a complete-game shutout with six strikeouts. West Virginia managed only three hits during the night, recorded by sophomore Matt Ineich, senior Paul Schoenfeld, and senior Ben Lumsden.
TCU took an early lead in the second inning with solo home runs from Preston Gamster and Kyuss Gargett. After those runs scored, West Virginia’s redshirt junior Maxx Yehl limited further damage by allowing just one more baserunner over his next innings of work. Yehl finished with nine strikeouts over six and two-thirds innings pitched.
In the eighth inning, Mountaineer junior Dawson Montesa struck out four batters but allowed two runs after wild pitches let runners reach base. Davis closed out the win for TCU by retiring the final ten Mountaineers he faced using just 108 pitches for the entire game.
West Virginia will conclude its regular season on Saturday against TCU. The final game is scheduled to begin at noon following Senior Day ceremonies at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
