The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team will travel to Texas for a three-game series against Texas Tech, with games scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The first pitch on Friday is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, followed by games at 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

This matchup comes as the Mountaineers hold a season record of 22-7 and stand third in the Big 12 Conference with an 8-4 mark after their recent win over Marshall by a score of 12-2. Last weekend, West Virginia went one-for-three against conference leader UCF.

Sophomore Gavin Kelly leads the Mountaineers’ offense with a .417 batting average and has driven in 31 runs this season. Graduate student Sean Smith has hit five home runs, while Kelly and senior Matthew Graveline have each contributed four homers. Kelly also leads the Big 12 with fifteen doubles.

On the pitching side, redshirt junior Maxx Yehl holds a team-best earned run average (ERA) of 2.30 along with fifty-two strikeouts over forty-three innings pitched among qualified pitchers. Freshman David Perez has posted six saves and an ERA of 3.38, while graduate student Reese Bassinger leads relievers with thirty strikeouts in twenty-four innings.

Texas Tech enters the series under head coach Tim Tadlock, who has guided the Red Raiders to four College World Series appearances since taking charge in 2013. This season, Texas Tech is currently at nineteen wins and thirteen losses overall and stands at five wins to seven losses within conference play.

The Red Raiders are recognized nationally for their offensive strength this year; they lead all NCAA teams in batting average (.359), hits (415), and doubles (96), while ranking second in runs per game (10.6). However, their pitching staff currently ranks last in the Big 12 Conference with an ERA of 7.21.
