West Virginia baseball to face Marshall in Huntington on March 24

The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team will play against Marshall University in a midweek game scheduled for March 24 at Jack Cook Field in Huntington. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m., and fans can watch the matchup on ESPN+, listen via the Mountaineer Sports Network, or follow live stats at WVUsports.com.

This meeting marks the first of three games this season between West Virginia and their in-state rival. The teams will meet again on April 7 in Morgantown and May 5 in Charleston at GoMart Ballpark.

West Virginia enters the contest after sweeping BYU over the weekend, scoring a total of 30 runs across three games. Paul Schoenfeld led the offense with an .800 batting average (8-for-10) and five walks during that series. Redshirt junior left-handed pitcher Maxx Yehl delivered seven innings with one run allowed and struck out eleven batters in Sunday’s finale.

For Tuesday’s game, right-handed pitcher David Hagen (1-0 record, no earned runs allowed, seven strikeouts, two walks over six and one-third innings) is expected to start for West Virginia. He will face Marshall’s Blaine Albright (1-2 record, a 14.09 earned run average, six strikeouts, seven walks over seven and two-thirds innings).

Marshall comes into the game with a season record of thirteen wins and nine losses under fourth-year head coach Greg Beals. The Thundering Herd were picked fourth in the Sun Belt preseason poll. Evan Bottone leads Marshall offensively with a .415 batting average and six home runs so far this season; Bryce Blevins has recorded four wins as a pitcher while posting a team-low earned run average of 3.98.

The next matchups between these teams are set for April and May at different venues across West Virginia.
