The No. 12 West Virginia University baseball team will travel to Cincinnati for a Big 12 series scheduled for April 24-26. The games are set to begin at 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
This series is important as the Mountaineers hold a record of 27-10 overall and are currently second in the Big 12 with a conference record of 12-6, trailing Kansas by two games. The outcome could influence their standing within the conference.
Gavin Kelly leads West Virginia with a .394 batting average and has driven in 34 runs this season. Alongside Kelly, Matthew Graveline and Sean Smith each have five home runs, while Armani Guzman leads the Big 12 with 24 stolen bases. On the pitching side, Ian Korn will make his first start after appearing in relief throughout the season; he holds a record of three wins without a loss and an earned run average (ERA) of 3.22 over more than thirty-six innings pitched.
Chansen Cole stands out among pitchers in the conference with six wins and recently threw five no-hit innings against Houston. The probable pitching matchups include Korn facing Nathan Taylor for Cincinnati, Dawson Montesa against Logan Knight, and Cole versus Connor Blue.
Cincinnati enters the series under third-year head coach Jordan Bischel with an overall record of 27-16 and an eight-ten mark in conference play after winning two out of three games at UCF last weekend. Quinton Coats leads their offense with a notable OPS of over one point one nine zero and has hit twenty-three home runs this season—ranking third nationally—while Taylor heads their pitching staff with seventy-seven strikeouts across fifty-six innings pitched.
