The West Virginia University baseball team will play a non-conference game against Arizona on March 31, concluding its trip to the Valley of the Sun. The matchup is scheduled for a 9 p.m. ET start at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, according to a statement released on Mar. 30.

This game marks West Virginia’s first visit to Tucson since winning the NCAA Tucson Regional in 2024, which was the first of two consecutive regional titles for the Mountaineers. Fans can watch the upcoming contest on ESPN+ or listen through Mountaineer Sports Network, with live statistics available at wvusports.com.

West Virginia enters the matchup ranked No. 13 and is coming off a series win over No. 22 Arizona State, where they lost the opening game but won Saturday and Sunday’s contests. Graduate student Sean Smith posted a .500 batting average during that series and hit a go-ahead grand slam in the finale, while sophomore Gavin Kelly recorded a .538 average with one home run and five runs batted in.

For Tuesday’s pitching duel, right-handed pitcher David Hagen (2-0 record, no earned runs allowed across 9.1 innings) will start for West Virginia against Arizona’s right-hander Jack Lafflam (1-1 record with an earned run average of 12.00 over nine innings).

Arizona is led by head coach Chip Hale and holds a season record of nine wins and eighteen losses after making their nineteenth College World Series appearance last year in 2025. Tony Lira leads Arizona hitters with a .364 batting average and five home runs this season; reliever Maclain Roberts has contributed with an earned run average of 4.14 and eighteen strikeouts over fourteen-and-one-third innings pitched.
