The West Virginia University baseball team lost to the University of Pittsburgh, 23-1, on April 21 at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers now hold a record of 27 wins and 10 losses, while the Panthers improve their season record to 25 wins and 14 losses.

This result is significant as it marks one of the largest defeats for West Virginia this season. Pitt took control early in the game by scoring in every inning through the sixth. The Panthers opened with a run in the first inning, then scored seven runs in the second, eight in the third, three each in both the fourth and fifth innings, and added another run in the sixth. West Virginia’s only run came during the fourth inning on a wild pitch.

The Mountaineers struggled defensively throughout much of Tuesday evening’s matchup as Pitt’s offense remained consistent from start to finish. Despite several attempts to close the gap, West Virginia was unable to mount a comeback against Pitt’s strong performance.

Looking ahead, West Virginia will return to Big 12 Conference play this weekend with an away series at Cincinnati. The first game is scheduled for Friday with a start time of 6 p.m.
