Born October 4, 1934; known for NFL and Farmington ties
Sam Huff was born on October 4, 1934, in Edna, West Virginia, and grew up in a coal mining camp. He attended Farmington High School, where he played football and earned All-State honors in 1952. In 1951, he helped the team complete an undefeated season. He went on to play college football at West Virginia University, earning All-American honors in 1955. Huff was drafted by the New York Giants in 1956. He played as a linebacker in the NFL for 14 seasons with the Giants and the Washington Redskins. He was part of the 1956 Giants team that won the NFL Championship. Huff played in five Pro Bowls and was the first linebacker to start an NFL championship game. In 1982, he was inducted into both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. His early success in Farmington laid the foundation for a long and successful football career.
