During the first quarter of 2026, Taylor Healthcare Center ranked as the second largest nursing home in Taylor County, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 60 available beds—five fewer than the county’s nursing home average for the period—and cared for an average of 58.5 residents per day during the quarter.

Taylor Healthcare Center earned a 5 out of 5 overall rating from CMS, surpassing the 2.9 average score for West Virginia nursing homes.

Rosewood Center led the county in size over the same quarter, operating with 69 beds.

By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Taylor Healthcare Center had not recorded any fines or penalties.

Taylor County was home to two for-profit nursing homes in West Virginia at that time.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates show growth among older adults as younger age groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the American population aged 65 and older rose by 13%, while those under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The older adult population in the United States has increased sharply over the past century, from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report found that almost half of people 65 and older, or about 28 million individuals, could need long-term services and support. The report also estimated that over one-third may eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
