WVU elects new student government leaders for academic year 2025-26

The West Virginia University Student Government Association concluded its election for the 2025-26 academic year, with Colin Street and Rozaireo Jones certified as president and vice president. The announcement was made by the Student Government Association Judicial Court on March 13.

Colin Street, a sophomore from Morgantown, is a Foundation Scholar and member of the Honors College. He is pursuing a triple major in political science, environmental and energy resources management, and multidisciplinary studies. Street has been active in student government as a senator-at-large and co-chair of the Community and Government Relations Committee. He spearheaded the establishment of the SGA Mutual Aid Cabinet at Mountainlair to provide students with free menstrual hygiene products and other supplies.

Street expressed enthusiasm about his new role: “Ro and I couldn’t be more excited to serve the student body this upcoming year,” he said. They plan to expand health resources through Mutual Aid Cabinets beyond Mountainlair, extend the High School ACCESS Early College Program statewide, and enhance peer-advising opportunities.

Rozaireo Jones, a sophomore from Fairmont majoring in journalism and multidisciplinary studies, also brings experience to his new position. As a senator for the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media, he serves as a Presidential Student Ambassador and is involved with Pi Lambda Phi fraternity. Jones led efforts for WVU's partnership with the White House Correspondence Association to unlock scholarship funds.

Thanh Le, director of Student Engagement and Leadership, commented on their election: “The future of the Student Government Association is in good hands,” adding that there was significant positive energy during their campaign.

Voting took place both in-person and online via WVUEngage from March 11-13. The SGA includes an elected president, vice president, 26 college senators, and 12 senators at-large.

The newly elected student senate members are Noi Alfgeirsson, Gracey Champ, Bryan Cole, Miah Green, Sydney Hickle, Emily Howell, Andrew O’Neal, Ben Seabolt, Tatum Shawn, Cheyenne Torres, Tris Silva, and Elise Vuiller.

Students elected to college senator positions include:

- Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources: Kaelen Armstrong; Matthew Bellisario; Ava Hill; Alex Tadros

- College of Applied Human Sciences: Lily Campbell

- College of Creative Arts and Media: Gabriel Flanagan; Dominic Scott

- Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources: Briar Hale; Ashlynn Traylor

- Eberly College of Arts and Sciences: Lauren Erwin; Olivia Robinson; Julia Schmidt; Paige Tuttle; Zadie Worley

- Health Sciences: Denzel Duvert; Cate Evans; Gabriella Selders; Ayaan Shaik

- John Chambers College of Business and Economics: Grace Everly; Michael Mugnano; Hank Poole; Cole Snyder

The inauguration ceremony will take place on April 13 at Erickson Alumni Center with seats changing on April 16.
