West Virginia University (WVU) has announced a late start for in-person classes on its Morgantown Campus due to cold temperatures and icy conditions following recent snowfall. Classes will commence at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21.

This schedule change applies only to class times, with all other on-campus operations proceeding as usual. Employees working remotely or on hybrid schedules are unaffected and should maintain their regular routines. On-site employees are advised to consult with supervisors regarding their work requirements during the delayed start.

For those involved in patient care or clinical rotations within WVU Health Sciences, it is recommended to check with relevant deans, program directors, or clinic managers for guidance.

Faculty members are encouraged to accommodate students who may face difficulties reaching campus once classes begin at 11 a.m. "With the cold and snow, this late start for classes will allow our University employees a little more time to prepare campus for our students," stated University Police Chief Sherry St. Clair. She urged the university community to exercise caution when navigating ice, snow, and slush.

Facilities Management teams will continue road and grounds maintenance throughout Tuesday. The university remains vigilant in monitoring weather reports from the National Weather Service along with state, local, and campus conditions.

Updates regarding any further changes will be disseminated through various channels including the WVU Alert system, MIX email, students.wvu.edu portal, MOUNTAINEER E-News, email notifications via enews.wvu.edu, and social media platforms like @WVUsafety on X and the WVU Safety and Wellness Facebook page.

Decisions about operations at WVU Tech and Potomac State College campuses are made independently based on local weather conditions. WVU Extension follows its own inclement weather policy available internally.
