AB College of Business to receive $200,000 grant
The Alderson Broaddus University College of Business has been awarded $200,000 in grant funds through the partnership with the Appalachian College Association (ACA) and the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE). The grant will improve financial education quality, access, and impact for AB students.
“We are grateful to the Appalachian College Association and the National Endowment for Education for providing this opportunity,” explains Dr. Andrea Bucklew, Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs. “This funding will allow us to expand upon existing financial literacy initiatives to better fulfill the mission of Alderson Broaddus by preparing students for their careers and lives after graduation.”
As part of the overall NEFE program to provide roughly $1.5 million to support ACA’s implementation of financial education programs and services, AB will receive $100,000 for the 2023-24 academic year and another $100,000 for the 2024-25 academic year.
“ACA member institutions share a commitment to providing opportunities for higher education to people for whom higher education has not always been available,” says Beth Rushing, ACA President. “Our colleges recognize that financial education is an essential part of a holistic education. This support from NEFE will boost our colleges’ ongoing work to prepare students for the careers and lives they will create after graduation.”
AB was one of seven ACA institutions selected to participate in the initial phase of the partnership. Planners on each campus will shape financial education programs to best fit the students they serve and their existing curricular and co-curricular programs. The benefits of this partnership will extend beyond these seven institutions as the program generates new curricula, instructional resources, and research findings on best practices in financial education.
“We are extremely thankful to the ACA and NEFE for the opportunity to educate the students of AB on financial literacy,” says Dr. Neeley Satzer, Dean College of Business and Associate Professor of Business at Alderson Broaddus University. “It is a topic that we, the faculty, in the College of Business are frequently asked about. This grant will allow us to provide valuable educational opportunities about financial literacy to our students.”
