U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Alderson Broaddus University (AB) “Best” College for its excellent standing in the 2022-2023 Best Colleges rankings. AB earned rankings of No. 32 for Best Value Schools, No. 50 in Regional Colleges South, and No. 53 for Top Performers in Social Mobility.
“The University’s recognition by US News & World Report is indicative of our commitment to serving the needs of our students,” explains AB University Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Andrea Bucklew. “AB offers students high-quality, affordable, and flexible programs that prepare students for success after graduation.”
The Best Value School category ranking calculated a school’s academic quality as indicated by its 2022-2023 Best College ranking and the net cost of attendance for out-of-state students who received the average level of need-based financial aid. Using this formula, the higher the quality of the institution and the lower the cost of attendance resulted in the best deals. According to the U.S. News & World Report website, “only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included because U.S. News considers the most significant values among colleges that are above average academically.”
The U.S. News & World Report Best Regional Colleges rankings are split into four geographical regions and focus on “undergraduate education but grant fewer than half their degrees in liberal arts disciplines.”
The category Top Performers on Social Mobility looks at the success rate of disadvantaged students awarded Pell Grants. Data indicates that economically disadvantaged students are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other characteristics. According to this category with U.S. News & World Report College rankings, “some colleges are more successful than others at advancing social mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of disadvantaged students awarded with Pell Grants. The vast majority of these federal grants are awarded to students whose adjusted gross family incomes are under $50,000”.
