Republican Robert Karnes has won his election bid for Senate District 11, defeating Democratic opponent .Denise L. Campbell.

Karnes expressed gratitude on his Facebook page on Nov. 5.

“Tuesday was awesome. I couldn’t have done it without a small army of volunteers praying, waving signs, putting up signs and spreading the message. We were outspent by roughly 5 to 1.

“Across WV this was considered the race to watch. Unfortunately, it had many negative aspects. Dark money PACs invested well over $500,000 to brand me as a “tax and spend” senator from my previous service. This is why it was so important to have volunteers spreading truth.

“My record is perfect. I have never and will never support tax increases. I want to thank everybody who saw through the lies but I also want to assure voters that were unsure or who voted based on the lies, I do not and will not support tax increases. I’m not saying it to win votes, the campaign is over. This is me continuing a commitment I made in 2014.”
