Cost of college went up for all students at Fairmont State University

In-state tuition and fees rose 3 percent for 2018-19 at Fairmont State University, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

West Virginia residents paid $7,514 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $564 more than the $6,950 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 117.2 percent more than residents this year, or $16,324. Their price tag grew 11.3 percent from $14,666 in 2017-18.

About 88 percent of the school's undergraduate population are West Virginia residents. And about 11 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 92 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 604 students received grants or scholarships totaling $4.7 million and 436 students took out student loans totaling more than $2.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (3,947), 2,433 students used grants or scholarships totaling $17.5 million, and 2,048 students took out $13.2 million in federal student loans.
