West Virginia University men’s basketball coach Ross Hodge announced on May 4 the signing of Seydou Traore to a grant-in-aid for the 2026-27 season.
The addition of Traore, a senior guard/forward from the Bronx, New York, is expected to strengthen the Mountaineers’ roster. He will join West Virginia after playing at Utah.
“We are really excited to add Seydou to our WVU men’s basketball program,” Hodge said. “He has experience playing in several of the top conferences in the country and has competed against the best teams and players in college basketball. Seydou is a two-way player with great size and length who can impact the game in a lot of different ways. He brings a competitive edge and maturity that will be felt throughout our entire program.”
As a junior at Utah, Traore averaged 9.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game while starting 31 contests. His season highs included scoring 23 points against San Jose State, grabbing eight rebounds against Holy Cross, and making five three-pointers in one game against San Jose State. During his sophomore year at Iowa, he played in 27 games with an average of 5.9 points per game and shot over forty-three percent from the field.
Traore began his collegiate career at Manhattan College where he started nearly every game as a freshman and was named to the All-MAAC Rookie Team after leading his conference in blocked shots.
Traore attended Our Saviour Lutheran School for high school and played AAU basketball with both New York Lightning and New York Dragon.
