During the first quarter of 2026, Pierpont Center at Fairmont Campus was one of the two largest nursing homes in Marion County, matching the bed count of Fairmont Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, LLC, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reports. Both facilities shared the top rank for size in the county.

The facility offered 120 available beds, 39 more than the county average for that period, and had an average daily census of 110.3 residents during Q1 2026.

The CMS assigned Pierpont Center at Fairmont Campus an overall rating of 2 out of 5, which is lower than the 2.9 average reported for nursing homes across West Virginia.

As of Q1 2026, Pierpont Center at Fairmont Campus had incurred $22,530 in fines and was penalized once.

There were three for-profit nursing homes operating within Marion County, West Virginia.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older population continues to rise while numbers of younger Americans dip. From 2020 to 2024, there was a 13% increase in people age 65 and older, while the population under 18 dropped by 1.7%. The growth of the older adult demographic has been steep, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 report found roughly 28 million in this age group may eventually need long-term services and support, with projections that more than a third could require nursing home assistance in the future.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, a public insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
