PE Limited announced on Apr. 14 an extension of its partnership with West Virginia University to provide advanced energy production modeling tools to students and faculty in the university’s geology and engineering programs.
The collaboration aims to enhance academic and research opportunities by giving access to industry-standard software. This initiative is intended to better prepare students for careers in science or industry by equipping them with practical skills sought by employers.
PE Limited, also known as Petex, is recognized for its petroleum engineering and structural geology software that supports efficient oil and natural gas operations as well as geological fault system modeling. The company’s recent in-kind donation, valued at over $6.5 million, will benefit the geology program at the WVU Eberly College of Arts and Sciences and the petroleum and natural gas engineering program at the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources.
Jaime Toro, Eberly College professor of geology, said, “Our graduate students will be able to learn how to carry out state-of-the-art modeling of subsurface structures in a way that enhances their understanding of the Earth processes and better prepares them for their future careers in science or industry.” Samuel Ameri, professor and chair of the Department of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering at WVU, said continued support from Petex is crucial for educating future engineers. “The Petex platform plays a vital role in advancing both instruction and research across key areas, including reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation, petroleum geology and well log interpretation, stimulation design, and horizontal drilling,” Ameri said. “We are truly grateful to Petex for their continued collaboration and partnership, which significantly enhances the quality and impact of our academic and research programs.”
The gift renews access to Petex’s Integrated Production Modelling suite used annually by undergraduate students, graduate students, as well as faculty members.
West Virginia University alumni have earned prestigious scholarships such as 25 Rhodes Scholars and 27 Truman Scholars according to the official website. The university fosters an inclusive community that values diverse contributions according to its official website. It encompasses a network of distinctive campuses according to university information.
West Virginia University states it aims to harness resources for building a stronger future beyond state borders as noted on its official site, drawing inspiration from its motto ‘Mountaineers Go First’ according to its website.
Petex has supported many universities through similar initiatives since first donating software tools to West Virginia University in 2018.
