In the opening quarter of 2026, Morgantown Healthcare Center operated under the ownership of WV Lieutenant Care Op Company, LLC, as reported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The Monongalia County facility has been managed by the company since July 1, 2022.

The nursing home is categorized as a for-profit facility.

During the same period, Morgantown Healthcare Center earned an overall CMS rating of two, which falls below the West Virginia state average of 2.9. CMS assigns star ratings to nursing homes based on critical criteria like health inspection results, staffing considerations, and resident care quality.

The data shows that Morgantown Healthcare Center cared for an average of 116.6 residents daily in the first quarter of 2026, with 120 available beds. The facility does not currently operate as hospital-based.

For that timeframe, the center paid $24,798 for one fine and incurred a single penalty.

Altogether, Monongalia County, West Virginia, had four for-profit nursing homes operating.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the aging adult population in the U.S. continues to expand, with the number of Americans ages 65 and older rising 13% from 2020 to 2024, as the population under 18 declined by 1.7%. The older adult segment has surged over the past century, increasing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study found that almost half of older adults, or roughly 28 million, may eventually need long-term services and support, with projections that more than a third could require nursing home care at some point.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, which focuses on insurance education. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
