West Virginia University women’s basketball head coach Mark Kellogg announced on April 27 the addition of Hawa Doumbouya to a grant-in-aid for the 2026-27 academic year.
Doumbouya, a forward and center from the Bronx, New York, brings two seasons of collegiate experience and has two years of eligibility remaining. She played her freshman season at Maryland, redshirted at Virginia during the 2024-25 season, and most recently competed at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
“Hawa brings elite size, length, and a defensive presence to our program,” Kellogg said. “Her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, combined with her high basketball IQ and continued upside, makes her a tremendous fit. Her best basketball is in front of her, and we are thrilled to welcome her to Morgantown.”
During her freshman year at Maryland, Doumbouya appeared in 13 games with season-highs including eight points and five rebounds in a win over Towson. After redshirting at Virginia, she played in 15 games last season at VCU where she recorded a season-high five rebounds against UT Arlington.
In high school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Maryland, Doumbouya was recognized as a four-star recruit by ESPNW. She helped lead her team to an IAAM B conference championship in 2022 and also played AAU basketball with Team Thrill and Team Takeover.
Doumbouya plans to major in sociology while attending West Virginia University. She is the daughter of Mohamed and Hawa Doumbouya and has three siblings: Mohamed, Dede, and Fatima.
