Fairmont State Fighting Falcons, featuring former Fairmont Senior High School standout Connor Gower, were defeated 89-83 by the IUP Crimson Hawks in the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament held Saturday, March 14.
The opening-round game in the tournament was played at Highmark Events Center at 12 p.m., marking the teams’ first meeting in the event.
Maxx Yehl and Gavin Kelly have received additional national recognition as All-Americans for their performances this baseball season. Both athletes have contributed significantly to West Virginia University’s growing list of honorees.
West Virginia University opened its College World Series campaign with a narrow victory over Troy on June 12 in Omaha. Key performances included Tyrus Hall’s four RBIs and strong relief pitching from Ian Korn.
West Virginia’s Steve Sabins has been named NCBWA Mike Martin National Coach of the Year after leading his team to its first NCAA Men’s College World Series appearance. The Mountaineers set new records under Sabins’ leadership during a standout season.
