Fairmont State University announced on Apr. 14 that it will sponsor a charity pickleball tournament organized by Leadership Marion Class 43. The event, called the Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament, is scheduled to take place at Fairmont State’s Falcon Center on May 3.

The purpose of the tournament is to raise funds for youth, community, and leadership development initiatives in Marion County. Proceeds from the event will be donated to organizations including the Marion County Future Farmers of America (FFA), the Dr. William E. Phillips Jr. Leadership Marion Scholarship, and will provide one tuition sponsorship for a participant in Leadership Marion Class 44.

Fairmont State University’s support includes donating use of its Falcon Center facility as well as providing food and drinks for participants and attendees. This sponsorship aims to help maximize fundraising efforts by reducing event costs.

“Fairmont State University is proud to support Battle of the Paddle and to strengthen the partnerships that lift our communities,” said President Mike Davis. “Leadership Marion plays a vital role in developing leaders who not only make a difference here in Marion County, but across the entire state of West Virginia. We’re honored to work alongside organizations that invest in people, expand opportunities, and build a stronger future for our region and our state.”

The tournament will run from noon until 4 p.m., welcoming both players and spectators. Teams consist of two players each and are guaranteed at least three matches through round-robin play. Registration fees cover food and a swag bag for players, while additional activities such as giveaways, raffles, and games will be available throughout the afternoon.
