Fairmont State University announced on April 27 that it has received a $5,000 grant from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals to help cover accreditation renewal costs for its Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety Program.
The funding will assist the university as it undergoes a review process led by the Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission. This process aims to ensure that higher education programs in science, technology, and engineering are providing quality educational experiences for students.
Abby Chapman, Certified Safety Professional and Program Coordinator as well as Associate Professor of Occupational Safety, said, “We are proud to be part of the BCSP Qualified Academic Program network. This grant directly supports our continued ABET accreditation efforts, which ultimately benefit our students by ensuring they are prepared to enter the workforce with a degree that meets nationally recognized standards. Industry partnerships like this strengthen both our program and opportunities available to our graduates.”
According to Fairmont State University, the BCSP grant will reduce financial pressure on the Occupational Safety program’s budget while reinforcing shared goals in advancing excellence in safety education. The university said that working with ABET—the organization overseeing both ANSAC and BCSP—helps maintain high standards for academic programs preparing future occupational safety professionals.
The university stated that this funding helps ensure confidence in its Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety Program because ABET accreditation demonstrates that essential standards have been met for preparing graduates entering science, technology, engineering, and math fields globally.
