Sophomore Emerson Smith of the West Virginia University gymnastics team was named WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments, following her performance at the NCAA Regional Championships on April 6.
Smith’s recognition comes after she competed as an individual event specialist on floor exercise at regionals. She scored a 9.9 in the opening rotation, matching her season high and marking her third score of 9.9 on floor this season. The result placed her in a tie for fifth overall among gymnasts competing in the second session.
The meet took place inside the Maravich Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where three Mountaineers participated as individual event specialists during the Second Round of NCAA Regionals. The team’s 2026 campaign concluded with this regional competition.
Smith is from Westerville, Ohio and has consistently performed well throughout the season on floor exercise events.
The recognition highlights Smith’s achievements during a competitive postseason for West Virginia University’s gymnastics program.
