West Virginia University pitchers Reese Bassinger and David Perez have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List, according to an April 22 announcement. The two athletes are among 61 players from Division I baseball programs recognized on this list.
This recognition highlights West Virginia as one of only three teams in the country with multiple pitchers included, alongside UCLA and Virginia. The award is given annually to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball.
Bassinger has played a key role for the Mountaineers’ bullpen this season, appearing in 17 games with a 2.93 earned run average and recording 38 strikeouts over 30.2 innings pitched. He has also collected two saves so far this year. It is his second consecutive season being selected for the midseason watch list.
Perez, a freshman, leads the Big 12 Conference with six saves after pitching in 14 games out of the bullpen. He holds a record of two wins and one loss with twenty strikeouts across fifteen and two-thirds innings pitched.
The Mountaineers are scheduled to play three games at Cincinnati this weekend, beginning Friday at 6 p.m., as they continue their season.
